HOW TO SELECT YOUR SIZE
Always measure over undergarments (not over clothes) for more precise information. Please do not give bra or jean
sizes. If you have a large cup size or broad back, the size of the garment may have to be adjusted accordingly. If
your measurements fall between two sizes, consider the largest measurements first, as well as the style you're
ordering, then determine which measurements would be easier to alter . Remember, it is usually easier to take in the
garment than to let it out when altering.
MEASUREMENTS
Stand comfortably, with equal weight on both feet and arms resting easily at sides, do not suck in.
BUST - Measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor.
WAIST - Measure the natural waistline. Smallest curve of your waist.
HIP - Measure the fullest part of the hip, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor. Only in the case of a straight
skirt or when the hip is several sizes larger than the other measurements, will a hip measurement be necessary to
determine size.
Extra Length: Most bridesmaid dresses manufacturers offer extra length. You should consider ordering extra length
if you are 5’8” or taller with shoes on. Extra length is usually an additional 5” of fabric added to the dress length.
HOLLOW TO HEM on Bridal gowns: Measure from the Hollow (base) of the neck, to the natural waist, follow the skirt
to the desired hem length. Take at the lowest point of the skirt fabric, underlining or the highest point of a scalloped
lace-measure over the fullness of the slip.
If your skirt will be full be sure to measure at an angle to allow for the fullness.
All measurements should be taken while the bride is wearing the same heel height and undergarments (bra and slip)
as she will the day of the wedding.

Other Measurement Guidelines
For Ladies' Regency Gowns, Pelisses and Spencer Jackets
Notes:
Using a sewing tape measure, most of these measurements can be taken by yourself (you may need to enlist a friend
or family member to help take the hemline measurement).
It is recommended that measurements are made over an underwire push-up bra, which replicates the original
undergarments of the Regency era to a fairly accurate extent and will result in a nicer silhouette and a smoother fit of
the bodice.
For pelisses or spencer jackets, do not measure over clothing. Spencer jackets allow enough ease to be comfortably
worn over a Regency gown
Please measure in inches.
Remember that it is extremely important to take accurate measurements. The finished garment will reflect the
measurements that you provide.

Shoulder-to-Shoulder: (from one edge of shoulder, across the back to the other shoulder edge)
Nape-to-Waist: (place tape at nape of neck and allow tape fall down the back, along the spine. Smooth tape against
back and mark where tape meets the natural waistline)
Hem Length: (measure from natural waist to desired finished dress length - usually about an inch from the floor)
Arm Length: (measure from shoulder to knuckles)
Arm Circumference: ( make a "muscle" and measure around the middle of bicep)
Underarm Seam: (measure from top of shoulder to directly under the arm - do not pull tape tight)
Front Bodice Scoop: (the original front scoop is exactly 4" from the clavicle - if desired, please measure from the
clavicle to desired finished neckline scoop and state altered measurements)
For Flower Girls measurement
Chest: (measure around chest, keeping one finger between tape and body)
Waist: (measure around waist, keeping one finger between tape and body)
Hips: (measure around hips keeping one finger between tape and body)
Arm Circumference: (have the young lady make a muscle and measure around the fullest part of bicep)
Hem length: (measure from natural waistline to 2" above floor)
